Maplelea. Mind = blown.

A lot of that has been happening tonight after discovering the Oshkosh outlet store (squee!) but anyhow.
Just yesterday I was telling hubby that I wanted to make an Eskimo or Inuit doll who was rad at like spearing salmon and mushing and hunting in terrifyingly cold places.  And today I find, SAILA.

I am freaking out at how cool her stuff is.  SHE HAS A SLED.  THAT SHE CAN FIT IN.  Can you see her and Kirsten rolling up all snow-bundled?  I dont' know if any of the other AG's would hold up in the dense cold however, I think Kaya could be #3 like with her own dog and sled.

Granted the sled is sold out but man is that cool.  Props to all the Saila posters.  For the record, this is what I'm talking about:

All her stuff

ARCTIC FUN BEDDING.  HOLY.

I am really wishing I hadn't just blown all my fun money on the AG historicals but I guess I'll be adding these to my wish list...http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/grin.png

Re: Maplelea. Mind = blown.

The rest of the dolls are creeping me out.  I like some of their stuff but they seem to be really casual in an abrasive, "WE LOVE CANADA" type of way.  Are they all modern?  I've noticed a lot of sneakers, baseball hats and tshirts so far.

Also, what is the deal with ALL of the furniture being white?  Can they not have their own beds?  I don't get that at all but I did like some of the bedding.  I'd mix and match it with AG beds though.

I do like that they have couches and chairs and more "soft" furniture than the AG's so I would steal those.

*big grin* I am going to shamelessly encourage you to get Saila, because SHE IS AMAZING on several counts. She's gorgeous; the -quality-, oh, the quality, is even better than American Girl; her journal is fantastic, too. I plan to someday get the amauti coat and pang hat for her.

Maplelea is too cool! Once I've finished my current historical collections I think I want to focus on collecting for Saila--she's she a pretty doll!

All the dolls in the Maplelea line are contemporary characters to my knowledge. The characters focus on specific regions of Canada instead of focusing on certain time periods as AG does.

I knew someone would and I totally want to.  I already have a My Life As so I'm not totally AG loyal.  I want them to have a mushing camping adventure.  Did you see they have a pop up tent for like $20???

Ah that makes more sense.  Interesting to learn more about Canada.  I only recently became interested because, Robin (HIMYM).

Yeah, I'm afraid they creep me out, too. They are a little too maniacally happy, like they've all just had 20 cups of coffee with max sugar in them. It's a shame, because I want to love them. If Maplelea would only adjust the molds, even slightly, that would help hugely.
I really want Maplelea to become a serious competitor to AG. Think of the benefits. TWO fantastic doll companies, and AG would be forced to step its quality game back up.

YESSSSS  totally agree.  I would love that.  I'm already going to grab any of the winter stuff that looks awesome if I can since we have determined AG can wear ML and such.  I live in MN so I need a lot of cold weather doll stuff apparently.  Kind of wondering how Felicity is going to do with that though, this will be her first winter here and I want to keep her in her time, she gets slightly confused when I take her out of it.  Maybe she needs a good wig shampoo?  Haha

I definitely want these for "modern" Kirsten (aka time travel Kirsten):  http://shop.maplelea.com/clothing-accessories/by-doll/saila-1/polar-bear-pjs-slippers.html

Agreed on both counts!
